The 48th China Guardian Quarterly Auctions raised a total of 194 million yuan in sales by the time the auction concluded at the Beijing International Hotel in Beijing on April 2.
Nearly 6,000 items went under the hammer during the three-day auction, including Chinese paintings and calligraphy, 20th century and contemporary Chinese art, porcelain, jade, artworks, rare books, coins and stamps.
As a renowned brand name in the art circle, China Guardian Quarterly Auctions have always been favored by collectors.
After the auction, CEO of China Guardian Hu Yanyan said: “China Guardian has spared no efforts to build the Quarterly Auctions as the largest and most authoritative offline trading platform for the Chinese art market and also made it available to ordinary people. Market segment and accurate positioning
Under current market circumstances, China Guardian Quarterly Auctions further confirmed the positioning of “Ordinary artworks created by great masters, and quality artworks by ordinary artists”. Chinese painting and calligraphy
The session “Master Pieces by Modern Chinese Painters” was the pinnacle of the 48th China Guardian Quarterly Auctions, which presented 87 pieces and achieved a sales volume of 31.62 million yuan.
Qi Baishi’s Dragonfly and Morning Glory was sold for 2.702 million yuan, Li Keran’s Boy and Buffalo sold for 2.53 million yuan, Zhang Daqian’s Beauty and Bamboo sold for 2.3 million yuan, Huang Zhou’s Girl and Chicken sold for 1.495 million yuan.

The total sales volume for “Modern Chinese Painting and Calligraphy (I)” was 14.25 million yuan. Zhang Daqian’s Character and Banana Leaves was sold for 264,500 yuan. Qi Gong’s calligraphy work sold for 598,000 yuan. Huang Binhong’s landscape painting Cottage, Pine Tree, and Mountain sold for 414,000 yuan, much higher than its estimated price.

The total sales volume for “Modern Chinese Painting and Calligraphy (II)” was 22.39 million yuan. Xie Zhiliu’s painting Character fetched 575,000 yuan. Qi Baishi’s painting Vegetables was sold for 517,500 yuan. Calligraphy works also produced exciting results. Guo Moruo’s Calligraphy was sold for 207,000 yuan. Feng Youlan’s Calligraphy was hammered at the highest price of 120,750 yuan.

The total sales volume of “Classical Chinese Painting and Calligraphy (II)” was 23.92 million yuan. Qiu Ying’s character and landscape painting Spring Dawn in Farming Land was sold for 3.45 million yuan, about 30 times its estimated price of 12,000 yuan. Dong Qichang’s landscape painting and calligraphy Shihuache was also sold at an unexpectedly high price at 1.55 million yuan.

After two years of preparations, “Collection of Mimu Retreat II” is another session that presented items from a single collector. It reflects the unique aesthetic taste of the owner of Mimu Retreat. A Gilt Bronze statue of Vaishravana from the Emperor Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty was the highlight of the session and was sold for 1.15 million yuan. A white and blue porcelain candelabrum with flower patterns also from the same period was sold for 862,500 yuan.

The session “Charm of the Important Porcelains” carefully selected more than 100 pieces of chinaware. A Ru glazed zun from the reign of Emperor Qianlong of Qing Dynasty was sold for 448,500 yuan. A colored jar with lotus flower patterns from the reign of Emperor Yongzheng of Qing Dynasty was a hot item collectors chased and eventually sold for 345,000 yuan.

Manuscripts and rare books
This portion included several themed sessions, providing rare books, letters, manuscripts and autographs. Its total sales volume was 9.72 million yuan.
The Mirror of Orthodoxy is a rare book that concluded the loss and gains of Chinese Buddhism before the Song Dynasty. The book was sold for 184,000 yuan. A Ming Dynasty edition of Mister Lv's Spring and Autumn Annals was sold for 172,500 yuan.

A set of old books about Chinese revolution collected by Tang Sou was sold for 207,000, while its estimate price was just 1000-3000 yuan. A set of books written by Marx and Engels with the same estimate price also reached a high price at 149,500.
