China Guardian To Hold Autumn Auctions in Early November
2013-12-13

China Guardian Auctions will be offering a full range of fine Chinese art at the Autumn Auctions to be held from November 4-7, 2005, at the Beijing Kunlun Hotel.

Over 1,000 paintings and calligraphy representing the finest works by some of the great masters of modern China, along with rare ceramics, oil paintings, stamps and books, will be available for public viewing from November 1-3 at Kunlun Hotel.

Taking center stage for modern Chinese paintings and calligraphy will be several private collections from both mainland China and Hong Kong.  Works by Lin Fengmian (1900-1991), Fu Baoshi (1904-1965), Qi Baishi (1864-1957) and Huang Binhong (1865-1955) are the highlights from the private collections of two major Hong Kong collectors.  China Guardian is also pleased to offer a collection on Qi Baishi acquired directly from the artist’s family.  Of the classical paintings and calligraphy to be offered, a piece by Dong Bangda (1696-1769), “Yuexin Hall after the Snow” (Photo 1), is expected to draw much attention at an estimate of RMB 4,000,000-6,000,000 yuan.

Following a highly successful sale at the Spring Auctions for oil paintings, China Guardian will offer a superb collection of over 200 paintings spanning from realistic to abstract styles by masters of different periods.  Highlights of the sale include a major piece of work from the early years of the founding of People’s Republic of China entitled “Chairman Mao Visits Guangdong Rural Village” by Chen Yanning (Photo 2) with an estimate of RMB3,000,000-4,000,000.  Also on offer are works by masters like Wu Guanzhong (b.1919) and Chen Yifei (1946-2005), and young artists like Cai Guoqiang.

Ming and Qing dynasty ceramics will continue to be the theme for the works of art sessions.  Highlights of the Ming collection include an exquisite blue and white dish from the Yongle period (1403-1425), and a blue and white jar from the Wanli period (1573-1619).  The collection of Qing ceramics include several rare pieces from the Yongzhen period (1723-1735) that represent the superb craftsmanship in their imitation of Ming styles.

A collection from the internationally renowned philatelist, Mr Shen Zenghua, will no doubt be the focus for stamp collectors at the Autumn Auctions.  With his lifelong passion for collecting stamps and covers, Mr Shen, formerly a solider of the New Fourth Army of the People’s Republic of China, has amassed a valuable collection of the Liberated Areas during the flaming war years.  His collection is widely regarded as the gem of Chinese philately.
