China Guardian, one of China’s oldest auction houses, plans to collect items in Beijing from Aug 19 to 23 for its autumn sales, which start in November.

The categories available include traditional Chinese paintings and calligraphic works, porcelain and artwork, furniture, oil paintings and sculptures, ancient books, stamps and coins, watches and jade.

The consignment campaign follows a strong performance in the first half of 2013, when the company brought in a total of 3.33 billion yuan ($543 million) from its five auctions.

Despite a serious slump in the art market last year, China Guardian has continued its leading role in terms of sales volume in the Chinese art market, according to Artron.net.

Recent sales highlights include Zhang Daqian’s painting Lady Red Whisk (71.3 million yuan), a fine imperial white jade “自強不息” (Zi Qiang Bu Xi) seal (66.7 million yuan), and Wu Zuoren’s painting The Yellow Blooms on the Battlefield Smell Sweeter (80.50 million yuan, a record price for a single piece by the artist).
